Harry Potter actor Sir Michael Gambon dies aged 82

Expressing grief over the demise of Sir Michael Gambon, his family announced that Michael Gambon is no more with us.

Michael died of pneumonia in hospital, with his beloved wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside.

Gambon was born in Ireland and started his career in theatre. Made his stage debut in 1962 in a production of Othello at the Gates Theater in the Irish capital, Dublin. He became famous in Britain for playing a French detective in the TV series Maigret and for playing the role of Philip Marlow in screenwriter Dennis Potter’s The Singing Detective in 1986.

His most memorable performance was in the BBC’s 2015 adaptation of JK Rowling’s “The Casual Vacancy”, while his theater credits include Alan Ayckbourn’s “The Norman Conquests”, “The Life Of Galileo” and Nicholas Hytner’s National Theatre’s production productions of “Henry IV”.

He has also worked in the film industry with roles in period dramas such as 2001’s Gosford Park and 2010’s The King’s Speech. He received global praise for his performance as Dumbledore in 1997’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In 1998, he was knighted for his contributions to the entertainment industry.

In this, former presenter Jeremy Clarkson said on his social media, I am very sad to hear that Michael Gambon has died. Remembering Michael Gambon, he said that The actor was such a stellar guest that a corner of the BBC show’s race track was named after him.

“He was hugely amusing, and such a tremendous guest, we even named a corner after him.”
